TL;DR

  • Most deals in this tracker publish no price: 11 of the 14 have no disclosed value, including OpenAI's agreements with the AP (AP), the FT (FT) and News Corp (News Corp).
  • Reddit disclosed data licensing arrangements signed in January 2024 with an aggregate contract value of $203.0 million and terms of two to three years (Reddit S-1).
  • Wiley realized $23 million from a learning content rights project with a large tech company in Q4 fiscal 2024 (Wiley, Jun 2024), and executed a second content rights project valued at $21 million, $17 million of it realized in Q1 fiscal 2025 (Wiley, Sep 2024).
  • Wiley's total AI licensing revenue was $40 million in fiscal 2025, against $23 million in fiscal 2024, after a deal with a third large tech company (Wiley, Jun 2025).
  • Developer Q&A and code are licensed through an API: Stack Overflow's OverflowAPI went to Google Cloud in February 2024 (Google Cloud) and to OpenAI in May 2024 (Stack Overflow).
  • The same data owner often licenses more than one AI company: Reddit licensed Google (Google) and then OpenAI (Reddit), and Dotdash Meredith, now People Inc., licensed OpenAI (IAC, May 2024) and then Microsoft (IAC, Nov 2025).
  • None of the 14 deals discloses an exclusivity term; News Corp's is the only announcement that calls itself multi-year (News Corp).

The companies below are named only because their deals are public. Naming them does not mean any of them works with fearofgod.ai.

How big are AI data licensing deals?

The disclosed figures run from a $21 million Wiley content project to a $203.0 million aggregate contract value across Reddit's January 2024 arrangements, but most deals have no public figure at all (Wiley, Reddit S-1).

Only 3 of the 14 rows carry a number, and each measures something different. Reddit's is a total across several arrangements whose licensees the filing does not name, of which Reddit expected at least $66.4 million to be recognized as revenue in 2024 (Reddit S-1). Wiley's $23 million is revenue realized in one quarter (Wiley), and its $21 million is the value of a second project, $17 million of it realized in Q1 fiscal 2025 (Wiley, Sep 2024). Wiley's third deal has no figure of its own; Wiley reported only its fiscal-2025 AI licensing total of $40 million (Wiley FY2025).

Every disclosed figure comes from an SEC filing. None of the press releases in the tracker names a price, and neither do IAC's filings on the OpenAI and Microsoft deals (IAC Q3 2025).

Why do text, Q&A, code and published content command value?

The announcements describe the licensed text as current, structured and vetted by people who know the subject. Google says the Reddit Data API gives it "efficient and structured access to fresher information" that it can "display, train on, and otherwise use" (Google).

Stack Overflow describes OverflowAPI as "the accurate and vetted data foundation that AI tools need", and says OpenAI will use it "to improve model performance for developers" (Stack Overflow). Google Cloud's Gemini uses the same API to give developers "suggestions, code, and answers from Stack Overflow" (Google Cloud).

Published, edited content is the other pattern. Wiley calls its content "highly valued for training GenAI large language models", and its deals cover "previously-published content" (Wiley). News Corp's deal covers current and archived content from its mastheads (News Corp).

The common thread is human-written text with structure and context: questions with vetted answers, working code, edited books and reporting. Company SOPs, internal documentation and code repositories have the same shape, although none of the 14 public deals involves them.

What terms do AI data licensing deals use?

Where terms are public, deals are multi-year or of limited duration, and none discloses an exclusivity clause. The rows support these patterns:

  • Length. Reddit's arrangements run two to three years (Reddit S-1), News Corp's is "multi-year" (News Corp), and Wiley describes its projects as having "limited duration and narrow use" (Wiley). The other 10 rows do not disclose a term.
  • Recurring delivery. Reddit delivers "through continuous access to our data API as well as quarterly transfers of Reddit data over the term", and recognizes the revenue over time (Reddit S-1). IAC's 10-K for 2025 calls the OpenAI deal "a partnership which began in May 2024" (IAC 10-K).
  • One-off recognition. Wiley realized each of its first two projects within a quarter or a half-year (Wiley).
  • Usage-based models are emerging. Microsoft's Publisher Content Marketplace is "envisioned to compensate publishers for use of their content by AI players and products", with Copilot as the first buyer (IAC Q3 2025).
  • Exclusivity. No row discloses it, but Reddit (Google, Reddit), Stack Overflow (Google Cloud, Stack Overflow) and Dotdash Meredith, now People Inc. (IAC, May 2024, IAC, Nov 2025) each licensed more than one AI company, so in those cases the data did not go to one buyer only.
  • Some deals come with technology. AP will use OpenAI's technology and product expertise (AP), and Stack Overflow adopts Google Cloud AI (Google Cloud). The FT bought ChatGPT Enterprise for all its employees (FT) and the Guardian rolls it out (Guardian); neither says it is part of the payment.

What does this mean for a company licensing SOPs, documents or code with fearofgod.ai?

Treat the public deals as reference points, not a price for your data: they are large publishers and platforms licensing news, forum posts, Q&A and books to AI labs. With fearofgod.ai, partnerships typically range from $50K to $3M+. Your company can be paid more than once, through renewals and repeat licences.

The terms that shape the public deals, length, renewal and whether the same data can be licensed again, are the ones to settle in your own agreement; the data licensing agreement guide covers them. To discuss licensing your SOPs, documents or code, talk to our team.

Which AI data licensing deals are in the tracker?

The tracker lists 14 deals announced or disclosed between July 2023 and November 2025, one row each, with the primary source that discloses it. It is a selection of public deals, not a complete list. The same rows are in the JSON and CSV downloads on this page.

Do not add the rows together. Reddit's S-1 was filed the same day Google announced its Reddit deal and does not name its licensees, so the $203.0 million may include that deal (Reddit S-1). Wiley's $40 million fiscal-2025 total includes at least the $17 million of its $21 million project that was realized in Q1 fiscal 2025 (Wiley, Sep 2024, Wiley FY2025).

How do we source this tracker?

We use primary sources only: SEC filings (S-1, 8-K exhibits and 10-K reports) and the parties' own announcements, never press coverage or aggregators. A deal is listed only when a primary source names the data owner and describes the data; the licensee may be "Undisclosed" when the filing gives no name.

Values are copied as the source states them, with what they measure (an aggregate contract value, a project value, or revenue realized in a period). Where the source gives no figure the row says "Undisclosed", and we do not estimate one. Dates are the signing or announcement date; when a filing gives only a fiscal quarter, the row shows the quarter's last month, and when a filing gives no date, the month it was published. Every filing and announcement was re-checked on Oct 25 2026.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much do AI companies pay to license data?

Mostly, the public does not know: 11 of the 14 deals here have no disclosed value. The known figures come from filings: Reddit reported a $203.0 million aggregate contract value for arrangements of two to three years (Reddit S-1), and Wiley realized $23 million from one content project in fiscal 2024 and executed a second valued at $21 million (Wiley, Sep 2024), then reported $40 million of AI licensing revenue in fiscal 2025 (Wiley FY2025).

Are AI data licensing deals exclusive?

None of the 14 deals here discloses an exclusivity term. Several data owners licensed more than one AI company: Reddit licensed Google and OpenAI, Stack Overflow licensed Google Cloud and OpenAI, and Dotdash Meredith (now People Inc.) licensed OpenAI and then Microsoft, so in those cases the data did not go to a single buyer.

How long do AI data licensing agreements last?

Where a term is public, it is two to three years (Reddit), "multi-year" (News Corp) or of "limited duration" (Wiley). The other 10 deals do not disclose a term, and none of the 14 discloses an end date.

Why are most AI data licensing prices undisclosed?

The announcements in this tracker simply leave the price out. Figures appear only when a company reports them in an SEC filing, as Reddit did in its IPO registration (Reddit S-1) and Wiley did in its earnings releases (Wiley).

Do these public prices apply to SOPs, documents or code licensed with fearofgod.ai?

Not directly. The deals here are publishers and platforms licensing news, forum posts, Q&A and books, while fearofgod.ai licenses company data. The focus is SOPs and process documentation, internal documents and knowledge bases, and code. Partnerships typically range from $50K to $3M+. Partners can be paid more than once, through renewals and repeat licences.

Can I download or reuse this tracker?

Yes. The rows are available as JSON and CSV from the download box on this page, under CC BY 4.0. Cite fearofgod.ai and link this page.
